Indian Cricket- The Future Dilemma

I post this blog in the aftermath of what is most certainly the end of India's "come back from behind to win" times- period; Vengipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman's "surprising" retirement has put paid to this. Much speculation has been going around regarding the circumstances under which the stylish Hyderabadi who only until 3 days ago was training for upcoming NZ series, hung up his boots, but all said and done, it marks the end of a glorious career of an outstanding cricketer- an unsung Indian hero.

The fab four having been reduced to just one now, what with the Great Sachin Tendulkar continuing in his masterful ways, an Indian cricket follower has but  to contemplate the inevitable now, the end of a golden generation and the beckoning of a new one. It however goes without saying that the transition is going to be very challenging. If Australia's example of change of guard is anything to go by, India's is going to be far more tougher, exciting nevertheless.
India's performance in the longer format of the game(read Test Cricket) in the recent times has been dismal to say the least and this makes the job of the younger lot that much tougher. The likes of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Cheteshwar Pujara, Badrinath, Ajinkya Rahane who will be vying to cement their places in the test side and in the process fill the big shoes now vacated by their much illustrated seniors will have a lot on their plates......
India's embarrassing drubbing at the hands of Australia and England on their home soil has left a sour taste in many an Indian cricket fan's mouth, and with a whole generation of cricketers having been bred on the adrenaline pumping T20 cricket left to take on the responsibility of restoring the No 1 test title to the team which only until last year was at the zenith, one is forced to ponder over the dilemma Indian cricket is going through.....
India's transition phase can head either the Frustration way or the Exciting way...good results and inspired performances can get people back to watching test cricket, viewing numbers of which seem to be dwindling by the day...on the other hand, poor performances will only make the case of T20 cricket stronger....
The average cricket fan's job is fairly easy...WAIT AND WATCH!!
